From 8-11th May, HAUD exhibited at International Telecoms Week (ITW) at the Hyatt Regency and the Swissôtel in Chicago, Illinois. This event saw industry professionals from around the world come together and discuss solutions to the latest challenges affecting the telecommunications sector.
Few of these professionals have a high a profile as keynote speaker, Steve Wozniak, Co-Founder of Apple. He kicked off the conference by hinting that we may be seeing a new automotive innovation from the company soon, something that’s been on the rumour mill for some time now. Connected cars are fast becoming a reality, and there is an opportunity here for everyone in the mobile industry.
The virtual reality (VR) sector was also very visible at the show. Jeremy Bailenson, Founding Director, Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford explained some of the current exploratory uses for VR, especially in the therapeutic and educational industries.
While the technology is expected to develop in line with increasing mobile data speed and the volume of available content, Jens Christensen, CEO and Founder of JAUNT went on to highlight the challenges in creating content for VR, which is a barrier the industry will need to overcome.
But while connected cars and VR are exciting developments for the industry, current issues and challenges were high on the agenda for attendees. The focus of the American region telecoms market has recently been focussed on the sizable issue of voice traffic fraud and International Revenue Share Fraud (IRSF) however, there seems to have been a significant increase in interest in fraud and spam being terminated over the SMS medium.
The feedback HAUD received from visitors during the event suggested that, as what is happening in Europe and Asia, the American market is clearly showing signs that SMS spam and grey route traffic is attracting the attention of key industry players.
