Last week six people were arrested for the alleged hacking of AT&T’s networks, causing approximately $24 million in losses for the telecommunications giant.

Initial reports of irregular activity dated back to 2011, when AT&T’s Global Fraud Management Organisation Manager sought police assistance when he noticed “a large amount of unauthorised calling activity originating from the Philippines”.

From 2011 to date, evidence was gathered to prove the hackers were guilty of making outbound calls to international toll-free numbers in the US using their landline or mobile phones. Once a connection was established they then dialled the number of the targeted victim.
