Hackers in the Philippines Arrested in AT&T Fraud
Last week six people were arrested for the alleged hacking of AT&T’s networks, causing approximately $24 million in losses for the telecommunications giant.
Initial reports of irregular activity dated back to 2011, when AT&T’s Global Fraud Management Organisation Manager sought police assistance when he noticed “a large amount of unauthorised calling activity originating from the Philippines”.
From 2011 to date, evidence was gathered to prove the hackers were guilty of making outbound calls to international toll-free numbers in the US using their landline or mobile phones. Once a connection was established they then dialled the number of the targeted victim.
Unfortunately AT&T’s recent plight is not as uncommon as we would like to believe. At HAUD Systems we work tirelessly to prevent fraudsters and spammers from hacking into operator’s networks. Additionally we have developed a range of modules focussing specifically on the prevention of voice fraud.
By deploying a thorough fraud prevention tool operators protect themselves from expensive litigation suits and from fraudsters who tarnish operators’ reputations and jeopardise subscriber safety.
Don’t let you network be next on a fraudster’s to-do list. Talk to a HAUD specialist today to discuss how we can bullet proof your network against potential attacks.
